Violin & Viola Lessons

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music education is a transformative journey that nurtures creativity, emotional expression, and lifelong learning. My goal is to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment where students of all backgrounds and skill levels can discover and develop their unique musical voices.

Studio Policies

Location

I aim to make lessons as accessible as possible for students and parents, therefore, I am committed to driving to students’ houses for lessons. For lessons 20 miles or more outside of Fort Collins, I ask for a flat fee of $20 to help cover the cost of gas. Please make sure to have a relatively distraction-free area of your house available for lessons with a music stand. Any pets are fine as long as they aren’t distracting from the lesson.

Scheduling

Lesson schedule will be determined on an individual basis with parents and students to best fit the needs of the student.

Lesson Rates

30 minutes: $30/lesson

45 minutes: $45/lesson

60 minutes: $60/lesson

Payment

Option 1: Pay per month

Payments for lessons are due at the beginning of the month. I will send an invoice via email before the beginning of the month with lessons scheduled that month and the total amount due.

Option 2: Pay per lesson

Payments per lesson are due at the end of each lesson.

I accept payments in cash, check, and Zelle.

Student Cancellation

Schedules permitting, each student will be allowed a maximum of two make-up lessons per semester. Make-up lessons will be scheduled during regular teaching hours as openings become available. Please give me a 24 hour notice before cancellations; this will help you and others receive a make-up lesson. Lessons missed without prior notice will still be charged. Scheduled make-up lessons will not be rescheduled for any reason (i.e. no make-ups for make-up lessons).

Teacher Cancellation

Any lesson that I cancel is guaranteed to be rescheduled.

Required Materials

Students are expected to have their own instruments, cases, rosin, shoulder rest, cleaning cloth, binder, and music to bring to each lesson. If the student has never taken a lesson before, I recommend setting up an appointment at Boomer Music Company (if around the Fort Collins area) and have them advise you on what violin/viola to rent or purchase.

Parental Involvement

Parents are expected to attend lessons for children under 10 years old. Once a student is 10 or older, I start having students take ownership of their playing and practicing, so lesson attendance is less crucial. However, parents are always welcome to attend the lesson regardless of age.
